The Ultimate Guide to Choosing the Best Weights for Peloton

What are the best weights to use for Peloton? It all depends on how you intend to use them. There are three possible scenarios in which you might need weights for your Peloton classes.

Why would you need to weigh yourself when using a Peloton?

First, the Peloton bike has weights. You may ask, “What is the weight of the Peloton bicycle?” I’ll answer that question shortly.

Second, you will find Peloton Tread Weights. Or, rather, dumbbells that can be used with the Peloton Tread.

For bootcamp classes, you will need dumbbells or handweights. Peloton will offer Tread bootcamp classes as well as bike bootcamp classes starting in 2020. These classes combine strength training, aerobic, and cardio work on the Tread or bike.

This is my latest post about Peloton bootcamp classes on bike and tread.

Peloton strength classes

There are also strength classes that you can take even if you don’t own any Peloton equipment. This is how I review the Peloton digital application. This is how you can become a member of Peloton for $13 per month.

The most popular Peloton is the Peloton Cycle, so let’s start with the best weights to use on the Peloton bike.

If you are looking for the perfect accessories for your Peloton bike or bike plus, I have the number one post.

Peloton bikes: Best weights

You have the option to upgrade your Peloton bike package to include dumbbells. These dumbbells can be one, two, or three-pound dumbbells. These are the only weights that Peloton bikes can carry. These are the only weights that will fit on your bike’s rack.

Three-pounders are what we have for our Peloton bicycle. They were “free” for when we purchased our bike. We upgraded to the “works’ package after we received them. The “works” package costs $249 more than that of the basics and includes one pair shoes, one set headphones, and one bike mat.

You will need a wider range of hand weights for the Bike+ and bike plus. You can now take bike bootcamp classes with the new swivelscreen. These will require more than the three-pound weights included in the “works” package.

What are the weights of the Peloton bikes?

For what purpose do you need the Peloton bicycle weights? To hold your hand weights, you will find a rack underneath the seat on the back of the bike. These are used for arm exercises on the bike.

These were indoor cycling sessions that they used to call “pump and pedal” in my old gym. These might be an intervals or arms class, which combines spinning intervals, arm work, or a pure arms class. Although arm classes last for a mere 10-minutes, three pounds of weight can become heavy after ten minutes of hard work.

You can buy dumbbells for your Peloton bike if you wish. The Peloton rack will accommodate dumbbells up to five-and a-half inches in length and weighing in at least two-and a-half in diameter. Anything larger or wider, the head, may not fit into the Peloton weight rack.

Where to buy the best Peloton Weights

You can certainly buy your weights through Peloton. You don’t have.

You can buy similar Peloton weights Dick’s Sporting Goods. Both offer curbside pickup and drive-up. For absolute convenience, I recommend purchasing your weights from Amazon.

Peloton Weights on Sale on Facebook

If you are on a tight budget, there is a way to find Peloton weights that are for sale on your local Facebook Marketplace. There are many people selling weights on Facebook, and I have seen used Peloton bikes on my own. There are many weights available for sale.

You should be careful if you purchase weights for your Peloton through Facebook Marketplace. Use a secure payment method and meet in public.

Peloton Tread: Best Weights

You can also upgrade your Peloton Tread package to include handweights. These are called “free weights”. You can only select five pound weights.

Here are the reasons why I don’t believe the Peloton Tread Weights are worth it. You will need to have much heavier weights if you are doing any Peloton bootcamps or strength classes. Or, you could have five-pound weights. However, most classes have light or moderate weights or heavy weights.

This is my article on the top, must-have accessories to the Peloton Tread.

Bootcamp classes and weight training

You will need at least two sets of weights to do Peloton tread bootcamps or strength classes with weights. You will also need at least two _weight_hand dumbbells.

When I began the Andy Speer strength training program, I didn’t touch the weights on my Peloton bike. These are the aforesaid 3 lb weights. Instead, I used my five-pound dumbbells, eight-pound dumbells, and 10-pound dumbbells. We also have 12- and 15-pound dumbbells for hand weight, but I’m still not strong enough.

There are several answers to the question “What weights should I use for my Peloton?”

Peloton-Inspired Workout Calendar PDF Printable

Peloton-Inspired Workout Calendar PDF Printable

This Peloton-inspiredcalendar was created because I realized that while I was good at keeping my cardio going (e.g., through cycling or walking on the Peloton App), I was neglecting other aspects of my fitness, such as strength and stretching.

After I made this planner, that is now on Etsy and was able to fill in the classes I would be taking each week, I became more adept at actually following through. This is from someone who has been using the Peloton since 2016.

It is easier for me to write down my workout plans on my calendar than it is to put them in a digital one. I can ignore the notifications.

This PDF’s Page 1 through 3 is from Monday to Wednesday.

Page 2 refers to Thursday through Sunday.

You can choose from a pink or red version, and a blue one. Print once, download it once, and you will never run out.

The best weights to increase your strength in Peloton

There are also arms classes you can do on your bike, as I already mentioned. You can get three-pound weights, like the ones I have, and you will be fine. You will need more dumbbells if you want to do any of the Peloton bootcamps or stength classes.

What is the difference between the Bike Plus and the original Peloton? This blog post may help.

Like the Peloton Tread, the Peloton Tread can be purchased in different packages. All packages, including the essentials, works, and family, come with handweights. The maximum weight, however, is five pounds. These also include resistance bands, though I have yet to use them in a strength class. Perhaps I haven’t been to enough Peloton strength classes.

Resistance band classes

Peloton members who are interested in using the resistance bands aforementioned will be happy to oblige. Peloton has recently introduced resistance band workouts.

This is why they’ve released the new Peloton Bike Plus. Older bike owners can trade in their bikes and get a free toning kit that includes resistance bands.

Peloton offers resistance band classes

How do you find resistance band classes? Scroll through The Peloton digital app.

First, open the app. Click on Strength. Next, click the filter to see the various class themes. Next, search for Resistance Band. Finally tap “Resistance Band”, to view the class offerings.

What type of resistance bands should I buy?

These classes use resistance bands with handles. If you have been to physical therapy, then you are familiar with dynabands. These can be used as resistance band.

You could wrap them around your fingers to achieve the same effect as handles. I have found a few places that sell resistance bands with handles.

Which weights should I buy?

The five-pounders you received with your Tread for bootcamp classes and Andy Speer’s strength training program are a great start. They’re not enough.

What weights should you aim for with Peloton, then? The following is what I recommend:

  • 5 lb
  • 8 lb
  • 10 lb
  • 12 lb
  • 15 lb
  • 20 lb

As I mentioned in the Peloton room: We have dumbbells up to 15 pounds. These dumbbells are a pair and have been extremely helpful in bootcamp or strength class.

Lightweights are required for the Tunde arm challenge.

These weights do not fit on the Peloton weight racks. They are stacked on the ground.

What are the light, medium, and heavy weights?

It is a great question. The answer will vary depending on how strong you are and your body.

Rad Lopez and Adrian Williams are great instructors for strength training. They refer to light weights in their classes as 15-pound weights. Yes, you guys are strong men.

What is the best weight for me? My heavy weight is fifteen pounds. Depending on how strong I feel that day, my light weights range from five to eight pounds. For me, the medium weight is 10 pounds.

What weights should you buy?

If you are a woman, like me, and just starting your strength training journey, then I recommend investing in 5 pound, 8 pound, and 10 pound weights. As you gain strength, you can always add 10 to our 15 pound weights.

If you are a man looking to purchase light, medium, and heavy weights, you might want to follow the lead of Rad and Adrian. It would be sensible to own 15 pound, 25-pound, and 30-pound weights.

TRX dumbbell weights

TRX dumbbells

These TRX dumbbells were recommended by my daughter Annie. They come in a range of weights, from 5 to 50 pounds. Annie loves them. They increase in increments of five pounds.

The TRX store sells them separately. Make sure to add two weights to your shopping cart.

Peloton classes without weights

I mentioned in my recent Peloton bootcamp class review that there are strength classes within the “bodyweight” category. This means that you don’t need dumb bells, resistance bands, or hand weights to train for strength.

Emma Lovewell’s Crush Your Core course is one example of such a series. Crush Your Core was introduced by Lovewell in 2019. Crush Your Core is a series of core classes for four weeks that Lovewell introduced in 2019.

If you are looking for a way to work out without the use of resistance bands or hand weights, filter your strength classes.

FYI, there are _no_Peloton strength courses that use kettle bells. That is something I’m sure many people want to know.
