Feel the Burn with Peloton's Walking Classes: Explained & Revised

Peloton classes were the first thing I tried. Because I love to walk, that’s why I started taking the Peloton classes. Every morning I walk my dogs, and if it’s possible to run errands by foot, I will.

You didn’t realize that Peloton offered walking classes. Yup. Peloton is more than a treadmill or bike.

What is a Peloton walking exercise? It depends on the type of Peloton walking class you choose. This blog post will explain the various types of Peloton walking classes and where they can be found. It also includes a review of what you can expect.

What is Peloton walking and where can you find them?

There are many types of Peloton walking classes. There are many ways to find them.

The Tread tablet can be used to locate the walking category if you have it. You can also find walking classes by using the Peloton digital application, your Smart TV (such as my Roku), or the Peloton website, which is located under Classes and then Moving.

There is another way to find classes with Peloton. That would be through the app that you already have. Next, go to Classes and then tap on Outdoor. You can filter the list to choose Class Type, then walking. We’ll be covering outdoor walking classes shortly.

Outdoor classes for Peloton Walking on the App

The best thing about the Peloton app’s walking classes is the ability to take them outside. The app also has an Outdoor class that is a legit category. There are currently 75 Peloton classes that you can do outside. These classes can be found by using the filter and selecting walking.

Second, there is no requirement that you take regular walking classes on a treadmill or Tread. You can actually do any Peloton walking class if you ignore the instructions for speed and incline from your instructors.

One example: I took one of Kirsten Ferguson’s 15-minute walking Stacking Stuffer power walks outdoors during the holiday season.

Recently, I took my dogs for a walk. Instead of listening to random music, I set up a Selena Samuela Trail hike on the app. I was sure she would have a great playlist. It allowed me to take a Peloton class without the need for a treadmill.

Peloton outdoor walking classes

As I have already mentioned, there are 75 outdoor walking classes available on the Peloton app. But that number is misleading. This is because Walk + Run classes are categorized by Peloton the same way as all-walking classes.

This has been complained about by many people on the Official Peloton Members Page on Facebook. Peloton has been asked to create a separate category for running classes in the filter.

The app lists 75 classes for outdoor walking. 56 of them are legitimate walking classes. The remaining 19 classes are Walk + Run.

You can take the Walk + Run classes, and ignore the prompts to run. This is something I have done, and it’s okay to modify the class to suit your needs. My needs are that I only run when chased.

The best thing about the app’s outdoor walking classes is that they are only available in audio. You just need to download them and start walking. They are done with AirPod earbuds and my phone in my pocket. It’s hands-free and wire-free so I can walk.

What type of Peloton app-based walking classes do you offer?

You can choose from many outdoor Peloton walking classes to do via the app. Jess Sims’ 90s Walk is my favorite.

The mPaceline app which I use for tracking my workouts shows that I have done this class 64 times. This is my favorite Peloton class. It should not be purged.

There are currently three types of outdoor Peloton walking classes. These can be fun walks, power walks, or regular walks. They appear as a “walk”.

These regular walks usually have a music theme. It’s like “Just Walk” in the Peloton App.

Important to remember that the phrase “walk” should not be taken as a deceit. The 90s Jess Sims walk is a walk-walk and not a power walk. Because the walk is all about what she calls jock jams it has a fast pace and you’ll be walking fast. Walking to this class is always a hard workout.

Who teaches outdoor walking classes

Jess Sims enjoys an outdoor walk, as I mentioned previously. Most of the Tread instructors do, too. This includes:

  • Olivia Amato
  • Robin Arzon
  • Kirsten Ferguson
  • Bec Gentry
  • Rebecca Kennedy
  • Jess King
  • Matty Maggiacomo
  • Selena Samuela
  • Jess Sims
  • Andy Speer
  • Adrian Williams

What is the duration of outdoor walking classes with the Peloton app

The majority of outdoor walking classes on Peloton are either 20 or 30 minutes in length. Jess Sims’ 90s walk is my favorite. It takes 30 minutes. This is the perfect length to take my dogs for their first walk of the day.

A few 45-minute outdoor walking classes are available. Unfortunately, the Peloton app doesn’t offer 60-minute outdoor walking classes. However, you can still do multiple classes to increase your time walking.

What music does Peloton play during outdoor walking classes?

Peloton Outdoor Walking Classes on the App allow you to listen to a variety of music styles. These include classical music (Bec), country (Selena Samuela), and rock (Andy Speer), as well as R&B (Kirsten Fergusson).

Peloton also has artists series classes where some of the participants show up in outdoor digital walking classes. There are currently two Beyonce Peloton Walking classes. Kirsten Ferguson and Rebecca Kennedy both have one. The Beyonce dancing classes can be found under the musical category pop.

Walking classes with Peloton Tread

There are many walking classes available on the Tread, in addition to the ones mentioned above. The best part is that you don’t need to own the Tread in order to take Tread walking lessons.

I have a NordicTrack 2450 treadmill that I use to walk with Tread instructors via the Peloton app. This treadmill is also used for Peloton bootcamp classes.

Peloton Tread’s walking classes include Walk + Run classes. They aren’t the most popular walking classes, however. There are hundreds of options for walking classes that can be found on the Peloton Tread.

Just walk on the tread

Finally, here is the answer to your question: Can you “Just Walk” on a Tread? You can find the answer under “Just Run”.

It’s located in the same place on the tablet as the scenic runs. This feature is unfortunately not available in the Peloton App. It’s not possible to make this “Just Run”, but you can still do it “Just Walk.”

Who teaches Peloton Walking Classes on the Tread?

Walking classes are taught by many of the same instructors that lead the outdoor walking classes. Peloton now has a team of British Tread instructors who allow you to go on walks with them.

Some of the newer strength coaches, like Daniel McKenna, aka the IrishYank are also leading walking classes. One of the German-speaking instructors also teaches walking classes.

This is the list with Tread instructors who can teach you Peloton walking classes. You can either use the app or download the Tread hardware. They are listed alphabetically:

  • Olivia Amato
  • Robin Arzon
  • Susie Chan
  • Marcel Dinkins
  • Kirsten Ferguson
  • Becs Gentry
  • Jon Hosking
  • Jermaine Johnson
  • Rebecca Kennedy
  • Jess King
  • Matty Maggiacomo
  • Jeffrey McEachern
  • Daniel McKenna
  • Joslyn Thompson Rule
  • Selena Samuela
  • Jess Sims
  • Andy Speer
  • Adrian Williams

What length of time do Peloton classes take on the Tread?

Peloton walks are usually between five and ten minutes in length. These are the warm-up and cool-down walks.

There are also a few short classes that last about 15 minutes. These are the Stacking Stuffers classes instructors recorded during the holidays.

These three durations account for the majority of Peloton-led walking classes on Tread.

  • 20 minutes
  • 30 minutes
  • 45 minutes

All 60-minute classes are Walk + Run.

Exercise on the treadmill with Peloton

What are the Peloton treadmill walking exercises like? They are also different from the outdoor walks in that they can be classified into different categories. These categories do not include the Walk + Run.

  • Hike
  • Power walk
  • Walk

The Tread’s walk classes have a musical theme, just like the outdoor walking classes. You’ll also see Artist Series classes as walks on Tread.

The Tread also offers walking classes that include cool down walks, warm up walks, and introductory walks such as Rebecca Kennedy’s Intro to Power Walking. There are also hikes.

What are Peloton hikes exactly?

Peloton began offering hiking classes on Tread in 2019 My mind was clear about what a Peloton hike looked like. The Tread, or treadmill, would allow you to walk up the steepest possible incline and then return down. It’s easy.

The Peloton hiking classes offer more than just that. They come in a variety of lengths. There are many options. You can choose to hike for 15 minutes, 20 minutes, 30 minutes, or 45 minute. You’ve probably experienced a 45-minute hike in the woods.

Review of the Peloton hiking classes

I was only recently able to take my first Peloton hike. Let me give you a quick overview.

Marcel Dinkins 15-minute Stacking Stuffer hike was my challenge. I managed to do it in 15 minutes on my treadmill. No big deal. Boy was I wrong.

Let me begin by saying that I am from the Pittsburgh area. There are many hills in the area. Marcel had me go up the hills at a speed that I wasn’t prepared for.

After a quick warm-up, hiking started. Marcel asked us to maintain a speed of at least 3.5 MPH while we climbed to a 12% incline. It was impossible for me to do that. I had to maintain a speed of 3.0 MPH.

This was a real power-up

In a matter of minutes, she would increase the incline by 2 percent every few minutes. In the space of 10 minutes, she increased the incline by two percent each time. Then, she brought us back down to 12 percent. This Peloton class should really be called a power hike. It was very fast.

It didn’t mean that I didn’t enjoy it. Like many other Stacking Stuffer classes, I was able get a great workout in only 15 minutes.

How to do Peloton Walking Classes on a Regular Treadmill

Keep in mind that I don’t own the Peloton Tread. I own a NordicTrack treadmill.

My NordicTrack treadmill also has jump buttons, just like the Tread. I can adjust the speed or the incline with one touch.

Peloton Walking classes are designed for the Tread. I recommend that you use a treadmill to do them. This way, when an instructor tells you to walk at 3-4 MPH or to a 5% incline, all you have to do is touch one button.

To walk at non-round speeds, such as 3.3 MPH or 4.5 MPH, you will need to use the plus and minus buttons. The jump buttons are great for inclines.

What shoes should you wear to Peloton walking classes?

My dogs are so active that I have to replace my walking shoes or sneakers every three months. If it has been more than three months since you bought new walking shoes, and you walk as much as me, please get new shoes. This is essential for your foot health as well as your overall body mechanics.

What shoes can you wear to your Peloton walking classes? These are some of my favorite shoes.

Women’s walking shoes

Ryka

Easy Spirit

Vionic

Brooks

Walking shoes for men

Skechers

Reebok

Altra Footwear

Final thoughts about the Peloton Walking Classes

As of the time this writing, I have earned my 150-mile badge on Peloton. To date, I have taken 158 walks.

Jess Sims’ 64-mile 90s walk was a huge help in getting me to this milestone. After taking the Peloton hiking classes, it’s easy to see myself climbing up to 200 walks in no matter how fast I go.

Peloton’s walking classes are a great complement to any other workouts you do, from Power Zone training. What are your favorite walking classes?
