One, you don’t have to wear special shoes with the Peloton treadmill. You can do that with the Peloton Bike.
You will need dumbbells or hand weights to attend the Tread bootcamp classes. You don’t need to be concerned about finding the right size. The Peloton Bike is no exception. Weight accessories must fit behind the seat.
Peloton has stopped selling new treads at this time due to a recall. This article is intended for current owners and future owners once the recall has been lifted.

Accessories for your Peloton treadmill: Why do you need them?
You may wonder why accessories are so expensive after spending all that money on a Tread. The answer is simple: You’ll be more satisfied with your equipment if it’s well-designed.
It’s worth considering it as a membership. When you needed to go to the gym, you probably bought shoes, clothes, or a bag. You made investments in accessories. Similar is the case with this at-home exercise apparatus.
You’re sure to get some must-haves and necessities if your Tread was purchased with the accessories package . However, the Peloton heart monitor is a joke. I know this because I was the one who bought the accessories package along with my Bike.
This heart rate monitor is perfect for Peloton
Although it’s nice that the accessories package includes the HRM (heart rate monitor) in it, I guarantee you will want another. You’ll find tons of comments on the Peloton chest-strap heart rate monitor leaking out if you look in the Official Peloton facebook group or the Pelotoncycle forum.
It lasted about a year. After that, I had to buy a new one. The chest strap heart rate monitor was not something I liked. It was always incongruent with my sports bras.

Your Apple Watch is not an HRM.
One thing I have learned since having my Peloton since 2016 is that you cannot rely on your Apple Watch to monitor your heart rate. To be certain, your Apple Watch can track your workouts. This seamless integration is something that many people find appealing about the new BikePlus.
The Apple Watch isn’t a true HRM. Even if you already have an Apple Watch, you still need another heart rate monitor.
A heart rate monitor is an accessory that you should consider.
You might be wondering: Why do I need a Peloton with a heart rate monitor? The simplest answer is: A HRM makes it easier to calculate calorie counts accurately. You can’t be sure of what your Tread or Bike is producing in calories burned without it.
Take a look at the image below. This is my bike. But it shows you the calories_allegedly_burned without wearing a heart rate monitor. It also shows you how many calories were burned when wearing an HRM.

Yes, I would love to believe that I had 700 calories burned. If you are honest with yourself and using your Peloton for weight loss, then the 362 calories that you burned is a better and more accurate metric.

Vornado is hands down the best fan for your Peloton. It is a trusted brand that I know of people who use a Peloton bicycle.
A fan is a must-have accessory for your Peloton Tread. The Tread is not equipped with a fan, unlike other treadmills.
Why Peloton users love Vornado fans
The Vornado pedestal fan is the most popular choice. It cools faster than other fans and is very popular. The fan oscillates. The fan can be adjusted in height.
Vornado fans can reach up to 38 inches or just shy of 4 feet. To cool you down, place the fan blades above the Peloton Tread siderails.

Tread owners use their treadmill every day. There’s no need to cover the whole piece of equipment. The Tread touchscreen, however, is a different story.
First, it is important to understand that the Tread tablet has a large flat-screen TV. It has a 32-inch diagonal. It’s as large as any Smart TV you may have in your house.

A treadmill desk or a walking desk was my daily companion for many years. The Spintray has helped me to convert my Peloton bike to a desk. The Spintray folks also have a desk attachment or laptop tray that can turn your Peloton Tread in to a desk. Theirs is called the Steptray.

Mat for Peloton Tread
A blog post I wrote recently about the best mats for the Peloton. It was written because many people were asking me questions about the best mat for the Peloton. Most people meant their Peloton bicycle. Some were however curious about the Peloton Tread.
The deal is that you _don’t_need to have a mat under your Peloton Tread. Even if your Tread is on carpet, this holds true.
Do not place a mat underneath your Tread
You don’t need to place a mat under the tread. Why? It could cause it to bunch up when you use your Tread. Be safe, and use a mat under your Tread.

Weights for strength training: Accessories for the Peloton treadmill
It makes sense that I have already mentioned Tread’s strength training classes and Tread bootcamps, so it is only natural to mention dumbbells or weights for Peloton.
You might have seen the instructors use square dumbbells in class. These Tread weights can be purchased directly from Peloton if you wish. They are often out of stock. Instead, I recommend purchasing weights at your favorite online or sporting goods store.
How to choose the right hand weights
You will need to lift heavier weights for the Tread strength training classes. For the Tread, you should invest in the following:
- 5 pound
- 8 pound
- 10 pound
- 12 pound
- 15 pound
- 20 pound

Accessories for the treadmill by Peloton: Headphones
You’ll receive a pair wired headphones if you purchase one of the accessory packs with your Tread. If I were you, I wouldn’t buy that accessory package just to get the headphones. Bluetooth-enabled wireless headphones are what most Peloton users end with.
My AfterShokz headphones have been a great choice. These headphones are bone-conducting, so they don’t fit in your ears. They work by placing your ears in front of them.
This is what it means. You can hear the instructors in class , and you can hear all that is happening around.
Apple AirPods: Caveat Emptor
Many people use Apple AirPods with their Peloton. It’s almost impossible to pair your AirPods with your phone after pairing them with your Peloton. It’s almost like they don’t want to let go once they are connected.
AfterShokz was a solution to my problems. I have heard from hundreds of people with similar issues. My AirPods will be used if I take my Peloton exercise outside, using the Peloton digital application.

Shoes by Peloton
The Tread has fewer accessories than people who own a bike, as I said at the beginning of this blog post. You will still need to have good walking or running shoes.
To use the Tread, you don’t need to purchase shoes from Peloton. You can wear the same shoes that you used to run on the treadmill at work.
Separate shoes are needed for outdoor and indoor workouts
Maybe you have been using the Peloton app digitally to do outdoor runs or walks while you wait for your Peloton. These shoes are not recommended for indoor use with the Tread. You should instead invest in another pair of running shoes, walking shoes, or sneakers you only use indoors.
I purchase all my sneakers from Zappos. They have a huge selection, especially if I have wide feet. Zappos offers free shipping and returns.
Wear socks with your shoes
I have found the best socks for Peloton since getting it in 2016. They are Bombas socks. Perhaps you have heard of them. This is how the company was founded on “Shark Tank.”

When you’re working out on your Tread, you will want to have a towel nearby. A good towel is a great accessory for Peloton.
You can also use a regular towel to clean your brows. You can also have fun with these Peloton-themed towels. I have the Work It Towels “Together We Go Far” towel.
A Peloton towel hook might be a good investment. The hook attaches to your Peloton treadmill’s side and makes it easy to grab your towel.

Peloton Tread versus Tread Plus
Two types of treads are mentioned on the Peloton website. There is first the Tread +, or Tread Plus. There is also the “regular Tread”. Here are the differences.
The Tread Plus, which Peloton now calls the Tread Plus, is the original Tread. This is the big, heavy treadmill that non-runners fell for because of its soft, cushiony running surface.
There is also the “regular Tread”. The “regular” Tread is a smaller, more affordable version of the Tread. Peloton says that the “regular Tread” won’t be available until March 2021.
Peloton created the Bike Plus, a more expensive version of its original Peloton Bike. The company now makes the Tread a simpler version. It is also half the cost.
